West Virginia: The Mountaineers' first season in the Big 12 began with great promise, as the team's 5-0 record included victories over No. 25 Baylor and No. 11 Texas. Then came five straight losses in Big 12 games, relegating West Viginia to the conference's seventh bowl tie-in. West Virginia looked stellar in last season's Orange Bowl, routing Clemson 70-33.
Syracuse: Doug Marrone has guided Syracuse to its second bowl game in his four years as head coach. In 2010, the Orange defeated Kansas State 36-34 in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. They'll be hoping for a similar result against another Big 12 foe and former Big East conference-mate. The Orange beat West Virginia in their past two meetings, including a 49-23 beatdown last season.
