2010 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Preview

December 30, 2010 12:00 PM ET
Stadium: Gerald J. Ford Stadium, University Park, Texas
Payout: $750,000
Played: 2003-present
Once known as: Fort Worth Bowl (2003-2005)
Broadcasters: Beth Mowins, Ray Bentley
Sideline Reporter: John Berger
Storyline: Southern Methodist will be playing its bowl game in its home stadium. The Armed Forces Bowl is usually played in TCU’s home stadium, but that facility is being renovated, so for one year only it will be played at SMU. The home crowd should put the Mustangs at an advantage in this contest. Army is playing in its first bowl game since 1996. The Black Knights are 6-6 after playing an arguably weak schedule this season. Nonetheless Army is playing better than it has in many years under second-year head coach Rich Ellerson. Army is the tenth best rushing offense with its triple-option attack. Army is looking to get back to football relevance with its first bowl win since the 1985 Peach Bowl—a 25 year drought.
